After teasing its release at SXSW recently,Kaytranada presents his highly anticipated debutalbum ‘99.9%’ via XL Recordings. The album findsthe Haitian born, Montreal raised producerdelivering on the promise of his early self-releasedEPs and remixes.
Since the age of fourteen, when he first began toDJ and when his brother introduced him to musicproduction software, his output has beenrelentless. He explains, “after he showed me thebasics, from that day on I couldn’t stop makingbeats,” pumping out a handful of tracks per dayfor the next couple of years.
Single releases like ‘Drive Me Crazy’ with VicMensa and ‘Leave Me Alone’ with Shay Lia soonspread his name like wildfire. With that releaseKaytranada cemented his reputation and hissound; an undeniable swing of the drumscomparable to Dilla’s, a signature soulful touch inthe melodies and a healthy dose of funkybasslines.
‘99.9%’ continues that tradition and new track ‘BusRide’, which features acclaimed percussionist /producer Karriem Riggins as well as rising Torontovocalist River Tiber, demonstrates that Kaytranadahas stayed within his canon while demonstratinggrowth on the new album.
